About us

Graphic geometric merino scarves, knitted in-house in the Netherlands. Art-led design, made to last.

We make graphic, geometric scarves — and knit them ourselves.

Thijs Verhaar by Knitwear Lab is a Dutch knitwear studio in Almere. Every scarf is designed, programmed and knitted in our own micro-factory, on flatbed machines, in 100% extra fine merino wool from Italian spinners. Nothing is outsourced: pattern and handfeel are shaped together, in the same room, by the same hands.

The designs are rooted in modern art — Bauhaus, De Stijl, the Zero movement — translated into bold colour and optical geometry. The result is contemporary rather than nostalgic: a scarf that works as a graphic object and as something soft around your neck. We believe a scarf should make you stronger the moment you put it on — more present, more yourself, a little more beautiful.

Behind the brand are two people. Thijs Verhaar, a designer with over forty years in knitwear and an artist's eye, originates and programs every design. Lyske Gais — trained as an artist and exhibition designer — brings the designs into the digital space, refines them, and builds the brand around them. Different instincts, one product.

Who it's for: museum shops, design stores, and high-end gift and tourist retail looking for accessories with a real point of view — pieces that hold their own on a considered shelf and give customers a reason to choose them. Made to last, not to be replaced.

Come by, feel the wool, and see the colour up close. That's the part a screen can't do.
